Smart View

With Smart View, you can view your Samsung Smart TV or smartphone screen on your Family Hub.

To access the Smart View app

On the Home screen, tap the Smart View app.

NOTE

The design of the app and the controls may differ depending on your settings and software version. If you have deleted the app from the Home screen, tap Apps and then tap the app to add it back to the Home screen.

To watch a TV screen on Family Hub

To view your TV on Family Hub, make sure your TV is turned on and nearby. You must have a Samsung Smart TV that supports Smart View.

NOTE
  • Smart View requires a Wi-Fi connection.
  • Smart View is available for the following Samsung Smart TV models. Check your TV model name.
    • Released in 2015 ~ 2017: J/K/MU6400 series or above
    • Released in 2018: NU7400 series or above
    • Released in 2019: RU7100 series or above
  • Changing the TV channel on Family Hub will change the channel on your TV as well.
  1. Tap the name of a Samsung Smart TV in the Available devices list. Before using Smart View for the first time, you must confirm the on-screen agreements.
    NOTE

    The TV may display a message asking to connect to the refrigerator. If this message appears on the TV, select Accept, OK, or Yes.

  2. The Smart View screen displays “Connecting”.
  3. When the refrigerator connects successfully, the refrigerator displays the same screen as the TV.
  4. Use the controls on the bottom of the screen to change channels, adjust volume, and more.
    • Tap the CH (channel) button to change channels. Alternatively, use the number pad to directly input a channel.
    • Tap the VOL (volume) button to change the volume.
    • Tap Mute to mute and unmute the sound.
    • Dismiss functions like the return button on a remote.
    • Tap TV to display the screen saver.
    • If you do not use the controls, they disappear. Tap the screen to display the controls again.
  5. To exit Smart View, tap the Home or Return button.
NOTE

A slight lag may occur between the TV and the Smart View app on the refrigerator, depending on your network connection.

NOTE

The controls of Smart View operate like a remote control except for VOL (volume) and TV .

  • The volume buttons for Smart View only control the volume of the refrigerator. They do not control the volume of the TV.
  • Tapping TV in Smart View switches to screen saver mode. It does not to turn Smart View off.
NOTE

On your Smart TV, access NetworkExpert SettingsMobile Device Manager, and make sure your refrigerator is registered properly with the Smart TV. Otherwise, the refrigerator cannot connect to the Smart TV.

To watch a smartphone screen on Family Hub

NOTE
  • Wi-Fi direct connection is required.
  • Only Samsung smartphones newer than Galaxy S6/Note 5 are supported. Older models may work with limited functionality.
  • Other manufacturer’s smartphones are not supported.
  • You cannot connect a smartphone when Family Hub is connected to a Smart TV (through Smart View).
  • Smart View may be disconnected if the distance between the smartphone and the refrigerator is too far.
  • Smart View does not support a smartphone’s system sound and calling function.
  • Galaxy S8 and above models will support full-screen display. Older models do not support full-screen display.

Samsung smartphones with Android version 8.1 and above

  1. Make sure both Family Hub and the Samsung smartphone are signed in with same Samsung account.
  2. Open the SmartThings app on the smartphone, go to Settings, and then turn on Visible to devices.
  3. Go to Visible to devices, and then turn on Remote Smart View.
  4. Go to Remote Smart View, and then turn on the Family Hub refrigerator.
  5. Open the Family Hub’s Smart View app, and then select your smartphone from the list. Alternatively, you can open your smartphone’s quick settings panel, turn on Smart View, and then select Family Hub.

Samsung smartphones with Android version below 8.1

  1. Open your smartphone’s quick settings panel, and then turn on Smart View.
  2. Select the Family Hub refrigerator in the popup screen.
  3. Tap Allow in the confirmation popup screen on the Family Hub.
NOTE
  • Some of the smartphone’s features and functionality may differ from the smartphone device itself (e.g. voice call, etc.)
  • Make sure that the phone is close to the Family Hub to avoid disconnection.
